Waterjet Cutting
There is no greater requirement in the aerospace industry than that for precision.
This is why thyssenkrupp Aerospace uses an extremely high-pressure waterjet (up to 6,000 bar 87,000psi), mixed with sand and travelling at twice the speed of sound, to cut exact final or near-net shapes. This waterjet can cut through all types of metal, including aluminum sheets up to 250mm thick.
The absence of heat in this cold-cutting process means there is no risk of thermal damage or microstructural deterioration on the edges of the cut material, both of which are totally unacceptable in aerospace manufacturing.
Our waterjet cutting services and customer benefits
When there is zero-margin for error, our state-of-the-art waterjet cutting services are the answer.
Our customers benefit by being able to choose between different edge qualities, dependent on needs and budget. The edge quality of the cut is defined by process parameters like pressure, the amount of abrasive material and speed of cutting, giving the customer the free choice to choose between high accuracy edges at higher production costs, or acceptable edge quality on more economical level.
We offer multi-head cutting options. Two or four identical shapes can be cut simultaneously to save time. This is especially beneficial for customers who have serial production requirements. Our use of nesting software means we can cut free shapes with minimal scrap.
Our waterjet cutting services include:
no heat-generated structural changes
no material discoloration
no toxic or fume discharges
high speed cutting using water pressures of 6,000 bar / 87,000 psi
option for virtually burr-free cut edges, eliminating the need for secondary finishing operations
omni-directional cutting heads with taper reduction
high material utilization and minimal waste
highly competitive cutting of flat materials as a result of multi-head operation
large bed size capacity (12m x 3m) with cutting capabilities ranging from shim – 200mm thickness
high tolerances of ± 0.30 mm (0.012”). Tighter tolerances are possible depending on thickness and/or type of material.
precision cutting for a complete range of metals, non-metals, and soft materials
