The business combines a broad materials portfolio with value-added processing, supply chain expertise, and a strong focus on reliability, quality, and customer proximity. In the field of materials supply chain management, thyssenkrupp Materials France delivers a fully integrated, end-to-end solution, spanning from strategic sourcing to final delivery.
“Seventy years in our industry demands more than endurance - it demands reinvention,” said Emmanuel Soubigou, CEO of thyssenkrupp Materials France. “We have grown by evolving with our customers, strengthening our expertise, and investing consistently in performance and innovation. Today, we stand on decades of experience, but our focus is firmly on the next chapter, we never rest.”
thyssenkrupp Materials France is celebrating its 70th anniversary, marking seven decades of continuous growth, transformation, and commitment to supporting industrial customers across France and beyond.
The company’s history began on 1 February 1956, with the establishment of its first entity in Paris, at the address 'avenue de Wagram', laying the foundations for what would become a major player in the French materials distribution and processing market. In 1972, the business became Witten France and relocated to Nanterre, reflecting its early expansion and ambition.
This momentum continued throughout the 1970s with the opening of key sites that still shape the business today. In 1974, the Maurepas site opened, which is also the current headquarters of thyssenkrupp Materials France today, and offers integrated supply chain solutions, project management and logistics. It was followed by the launch of the Le Mans site in 1979, bringing enhanced value-added processing capabilities closer to customers. On 1 July 1981, the company adopted the name Thyssen Aciers, further strengthening its position within the European steel and materials landscape. The opening of the Bourges site in 1983 marked another milestone in expanding regional coverage and technical capabilities, such as cut-to-size, waterjet cutting, warehousing and logistics services.

In 1994, the merger with Thyssen Special Steels led to the formation of Thyssen France, broadening the company’s product portfolio and technical expertise. Following the global merger that created thyssenkrupp, the business became thyssenkrupp Materials France in 2002, fully integrating into the thyssenkrupp Materials Services network. More recently, in 2013, the opening of the Tunisia site, operating as part of thyssenkrupp Materials France, further extended the company’s international footprint and operational flexibility with additional cut-to-size, warehousing and logistics capabilities.
Looking ahead, the company remains focused on developing more added value services to the industry: supply chain orchestration through digital solutions, support and technical consulting, reinforcing its role as a trusted materials and supply chain solutions partner for the next generation of industrial challenges. After 70 years, thyssenkrupp Materials France is defined not simply by its longevity, but by its ongoing commitment to performance, partnership, and long-term value creation for the industries it serves.
